John J.D. Dee Tomlinson, Ponca City resident, passed away on Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at the Ponca City Medical Center. He was 88.
J.D. was born the son of Dee Tomlinson and Margaret Wysong Tomlinson on June 2, 1921 in Drumright, Oklahoma. He attended grade school in Tonkawa and graduated from Blackwell High School where he later enjoyed being involved with class reunions. He continued his education by taking classes at OSU. As a young man he worked in the oilfields from South Texas to Wyoming. During World War II he was employed at the Boeing Plant in Wichita. J.D. was the electrical supervisor at Conoco and retired after 33 years.
He was very active at Westminster Village where he served as President, led exercise activities and called Bingo among many other things. J.D. had been deacon and Sunday school teacher at First Christian Church. He later became a member of Albright United Methodist Church. He was a member of the Moose Lodge Elks Lodge a 60 year member of International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers 57 year member of Grand Lodge A.F. A.M., and very involved with the Masonic lodge where he was a 32 degree Mason.
He had several enjoyments throughout his life. In his younger years, he loved to water ski, play golf, fish and hunt. One of his favorite things was to go fishing with his grandson. He loved his grandchildren and was extremely proud of them. His presence will be greatly missed.
He is survived by his daughter, Barbara Spurgeon and husband, Virgil of The Woodlands, Texas three grandchildren, Dr. Jim Spurgeon and wife, Diana of Norman, Oklahoma, Janette Wilkinson and husband, Randall of McKinney, Texas and Jana Erwin and husband, Carter of Montgomery, Texas four greatgrandchildren, Kourtney Spurgeon, Kayla Spurgeon, Maddie Erwin and Drew Wilkinson as well as his devoted friend, Marge Howard.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Dee Tomlinson and Margaret Bushman first wife, Irene Dunn and second wife, Colleen Delores Tomlinson and one brother, Moy Tomlinson.
The graveside service will be held at 11:30 a.m., Saturday, May 15, 2010 at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel. The Rev. Scott Spencer of Albright United Methodist Church will officiate.
