Iva Leota Burnett McGavran, longtime resident of Ponca City, died Saturday, July 23, 2011 at the Ponca City Medical Center. She was 75 years of age.
A graveside service will be held at 9 a.m. Wednesday, July 27, 2011 at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery with Pastor Ron McCormick and Steve Bradshaw presiding. Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
Casket bearers will be David Maxey, Marc Morain, Chris Stephenson, Jeff Marsten, Tony Bales and Sam Dodds. Honorary casket bearers will be Matt Jones and Kurt Purdue.
Iva McGavran was born September 2, 1935 south of Stillwater, the daughter of Harry Burnett and Neva Goodenough Burnett. She grew up on a farm near the 101 Ranch south of Ponca City. She attended Marland Schools first and Ponca City Schools later. She graduated from Ponca City High School in 1954. She was married to Larry Allen McGavran on June 16, 1980 in Wellington, Kansas. Iva worked at the Conoco Cafeteria for 20 years, retiring in 1993. After retiring, she worked at Pioneer VoTech, The Sterling House Retirement Center and the Renaissance Retirement facility as a cook. She was a member of the Bible Methodist Church, United States Human Society, Veterans First and Wounded Warriors. Her enjoyments were playing with her great grandchildren attending Flea Markets and collecting Bear dolls. Iva also had a favorite pet Pekinese, Dimples Marcus Allen McGavran that passed in the year 2008.
Iva is survived by her husband of 31 years, Larry one daughter, Vickie Simmons Stephenson and husband Jay Dee, of Ponca City one adopted son, David Maxey, of Mannford, Oklahoma one grandchild, Deidre M. Stephenson Dodds and husband Sam three great grandchildren, Matthew Wayne Dodds the Kid, Caitlin Marie Dodds Miss Katie, and Chloe Dawn Dodds Miss Chloe two stepgrandchildren, Mark Stephenson and Chris Stephenson one niece, Desiree Morain one nephew, Marc Morain and one great friend Sandra Marsten, all of Ponca City.
Iva was preceded in death by her parents, one son, Matthew Wayne Simmons one sister, Lois Morain one granddaughter, Carla Ann Hodges Bales several other family members that include an aunt, Ada Seifert and best friend Luanne Lanning.
