Irene Louise Hughes, former resident of Ponca City, passed away Thursday, March 11, 2010 in Claremore, Oklahoma. She was 96.

Irene was born August 16, 1913 in Orlando, Oklahoma, the daughter of George Beeson and Mae Black Beeson. She was a graduate of Hunter, Oklahoma High School and enrolled in nursing classes in Enid. She was married to Alfred Hughes on June 16, 1932 in Winfield, Kansas. She was a charter member of the Woodlands Christian Church and her enjoyments were her grandchildren, playing bridge and senior citizens activities.

She is survived by her two children, Jean Siler and Joyce Calvert one sister, Bonnie Bundrick seven grandchildren and numerous great and great great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents her husband one son, Rex A. Hughes daughterinlaw, Marsha Hughes and two brothers, Harold and DeWayne.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Monday, March 15, 2010 at the Woodlands Christian Church with Rev. Bob Weaver presiding. Interment will be in Sunset Memorial Garden under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.

Casket bearers will be Larry Martin, Gary Martin, Dustin Martin, Noel Rhodd, David Wadlow and James Wadlow. Honorary casket bearers will be Dalton Feathers, Gavin Feathers and Kolton Feathers.
