Howard L. Hoot Buxton, longtime resident of Fairfax, passed away Saturday, September 20, 2008 in Select Specialty Hospital located in St. Francis Hospital, Tulsa. He was 88. Howard was born April 28, 1920 in Claremore, Oklahoma, the son of Wills P. Buxton and Ida Alice Beathe Buxton. He received his education in the Fairfax schools. As a young man Howard was involved in Golden Glove boxing. He was married to Helen McFadden on February 22, 1942 in Pawhuska, Oklahoma. Howard was inducted into the United States Army on February 13, 1941 and served his country in the Sicilian and Italian Campaigns. He was wounded in combat on February 14, 1944 and as a result was awarded the Purple Heart. He was honorably discharged from the Army on December 20, 1944. He was a member of the First Osage Baptist Church, the VFW, DAV and American Legion. His enjoyments included visiting with others, making friends and keeping them for life. He is survived by his wife, Helen, of the home; one sister, Nina Belle Davis, Hominy, Oklahoma; God children, Paula Pascoe Brown and husband, Kerry Walsh, Tulsa, Oklahoma and Neal Pascoe and wife, Debbie, of Broken Arrow, their mother, Loreita Pascoe, of Tulsa; other special persons that include Kay Stroup Moore and husband, James, of Bristow, Oklahoma, Jana Stroup Ackerman, Napa Valley, California, their mother, Fran Stroup Ayers, of Tulsa, Lee and Wanda Blackwell, Claremore, Oklahoma, and their daughter, Debbie, of Tulsa, and Tommy of Claremore, other very special were Donna Doell, son Brandt of Tulsa and mother, Oma Brehm of Broken Arrow. He is also survived by a sister-in-law, Angie Buxton of Rosharon, Texas. Howard was so fortunate to have had numerous nephews and nieces who always made life a joy for him. Their presence was always special. They, and their spouses, provided constant love and care. Other friends are not to be forgotten; they lighted his pathway many years. Hoot loved everyone and he was indeed, a very precious person. Howard was preceded in death by his parents; five brothers, Delmer Buxton, Conrad Jack Buxton, Joe Russell Buxton, W.P. Buxton Jr. and Earl Wayne Buxton; one sister, Virginia Ruth Jackson. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, September 27, 2008 at the First Osage Baptist Church in Fairfax with the Rev. George Weston presiding. Burial will be in the Fairfax Cemetery under the direction of the Hunsaker-Wooten Funeral Home of Fairfax.
