Helen Marie Orcutt, former resident of Shidler, passed away Sunday, December 2, 2012 at the Ponca City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was 85 years of age.

Helen was born December 9, 1926 in Shidler, Oklahoma, the daughter of Charles Edwin Reynolds and Jewell Fears Reynolds. Her mother passed away when Helen was three years of age, and she and her brother were raised by her grandfather on her mothers side, William A. Rowe. Helen and her brother, while living at Washunga, road horseback to school many times during their youth. She was a 1944 graduate of Kaw City High School. She was employed after high school at The Clubb Hotel in Old Kaw where she was a switchboard operator and waitress. She was married to James Orcutt on December 9, 1946 in Winfield, Kansas. The couple established their first home in Shidler.

Helen was a former member of the Old Kaw City Christian Church, later becoming a member of the Shidler Methodist Church. She was a former cook at the Shidler High School cafeteria. Helen was a wonderful cook and was known for her great cinnamon rolls. She also was a seamstress and had made several garments for her family. She loved being a homemaker.

She is survived by her four children, James L. Jim Orcutt Jr. and wife, Marcie, Seattle, Washington, Curtis W. Orcutt and wife, Kim, of Shidler, Sue Fleharty of Kaw City, and Nancy Wehunt of Shidler one brother, Louis Reynolds and wife, Ruth, of Fort Meyer, Florida 12 grandchildren, Valarie Jones and husband, John, Shane Overbey, Shawn Wehunt and wife, Amy, Zachary Orcutt, Britton Wehunt and wife, Kortney, Kimberly Miller and husband, Nate, Colter Orcutt, Caulin Orcutt, Casey Queen, Chelsea Queen, Austin Queen and Karisa Queen 5 great grandchildren, Justin J.P. Jones, Julie Lenee Jones, Karli Jo Wehunt, Ladd Owen Wehunt and Bradyn Queen. She was preceded in death by her parents her husband, James, on January 17, 2007 Cecil Fleharty, the late husband of daughter Sue Fleharty and Bob Wehunt, the late husband of daughter Nancy Wehunt .

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at the Shidler Methodist Church with Pastor Jerry K. Coldren presiding. Burial will follow in the Grandview Cemetery, Kaw City, under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.

Casket bearers will be grandsons, Shawn Wehunt, Shane Overbey, Britton Wehunt, Colter Orcutt, Caulin Orcutt and Justin J.P. Orcutt. Honorary casket bearers will be John Jones, Casey Cargill and Zachary Orcutt.
