Hazel Irene Bryant, resident of Ponca City, died Saturday morning, November 14, 2009 at the Ponca City Nursing and Rehab Center. She was 92 years old. Hazel was born to Ira Lee McNaught and Luella Gertrude Peaney McNaught on the family homestead outside Mooreland, Oklahoma on June 10, 1917. She lived through the great depression and the dust bowl. Hazel was the valedictorian of the 1934 class of Mooreland High School, and took advantage of a full academic scholarship that was granted to her at Northwestern State Teachers Preparatory College in Alva, Oklahoma. She met her lifelong love, Charles R. Bryant in January, 1935 and the couple was united in marriage on December 29, 1935 in Winfield, Kansas. Hazel was a devoted wife and mother and was extremely close to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is survived by her daughter, Billie Case and husband, Roy, son, Dick Bryant and wife, Theresa and son, Mack Bryant and wife, Linda; 13 grandchildren; 25 great grandchildren; and four great great grandchildren. She is preceded in death by her parents, Ira and Luella McNaught; loving husband, Charles, December 19, 1993; three sisters and three brothers. Casket bearers for the service will be her grandsons, Scott Case, Sam Case, Beau Bryant, Jon Bryant and Jeff Bryant. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Hazels honor to Hospice of North Central Oklahoma, 1904 North Union, Suite 103, Ponca City, Oklahoma 74601. The graveside service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Thursday, November 19, 2009 at Odd Fellows Cemetery with The Rev. Wilford Wisel officiating. Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
