Gerald Boyd

Gerald William Boyd, 80, of Ponca City, passed away Saturday, August 10, 2013 at his home. Gerald was born on October 3, 1932 in Maramec, OK to Audray and Flora Lesher Boyd.
He was raised and attended school in the Quay, OK area.
Gerald served in the US Air Force from 19501954 and was stationed in Japan. Gerald married Edna Simmons on June 1, 1954 in Yale, OK and they made their home in Ponca City. He owned and operated Boyds Welding Shop for many years before working at Mertz and later for the Ponca City Public Schools as the Maintenance Director working there until his retirement in 1993. At that time he was able to become a fulltime farmerrancher which is what he wanted to do his whole life. He loved all of his horses, cows, goats and donkeys like they were his children. Gerald was a hard worker and always enjoyed a challenging project. He could design and build anything that he dreamed up.
Going to check the cows with Edna and spending time with his kids and his grandkids, were his favorite things to do.
Gerald was preceded in death by his parents.
Gerald is survived by his wife Edna, sonRick Boyd and his wife Lori Young Boyd of Ponca City, daughterSusan and her husband Greg Butts of Ponca City. Grandchildren Keri Boyd, Lendsi Edwards and Tom Butts. Great GrandchildKarsin Edwards. Brothers Jack Boyd of Washington state and Jim Boyd of the Philippines.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Geralds name to Hospice of North Central Oklahoma, 1904 N. Union, Ste 104, Ponca City, OK 74601.
Graveside services will 10 a.m., Tuesday, August 20, 2013 at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery with Chaplain Mike Sweetman, of Hospice of North Central Oklahoma, officiating. Military honors will be provided by The Honors Detail from Vance Air Force Base in Enid, OK.
