George Louis SHORTY Dunagan, 77, of Ponca City, passed away Wednesday, 1182012 at Ponca City Medical Center.
George was born on Aug. 2, 1934 in Seminole, OK to George W. and Alaska Mitchell Dunagan. George attended schools in Bowers, OK, Wilburton, OK, Okay, OK, Tahlequah, OK, Pittsburg, KS, Norman, OK and Stillwater, OK. George also had a Bachelor of Arts in Education and a Masters Degree in Teaching.
George enlisted in the US Navy in 1954 and was discharged in 1958. George was a member of the National Guard and US Army Reserve retiring in 1994 at the rank of Master Sergeant.
George married Mary Bedford on April 11, 1968 in Tulsa, OK. George taught at the Chilocco Indian School from 19691980, Ft. Wingate Navajo School from 19721973. George worked as a chemist for OGE in Red Rock, OK from 19801992 then worked at ITC Meat Plant as a chemist from 1996 until he retired in 2001. George was a member of Central Baptist Church in Ponca City, Newkirk Masonic Lodge 88 and Akdar Shrine in Tulsa.
George was preceded in death by his parents, 1 granddaughter Caitlyn and several other relatives.
George is survived by his wifeMary, children Alan Michael and Tammy Jo Dunagan of Aurora, IL., Sharon Lynn and Brian Holt of Wylie, TX and Charles Albert and Tara Dunagan of Broken Arrow, OK. BrotherEdward Lee and wife Connie Dunagan of Wilburton, OK and Sister Lana Dawn and husband Kip of Catoosa, OK. 5 Grandchildren Ashley, Dustin, Emily, Aidan and Avery.
Funeral Services will be 10 am Friday, 1202012 in the Grace Memorial Chapel with Rev. Mike Ridgway officiating. Graveside services will be 1:00 pm, Saturday, 1212012 at Restland Cemetery of Dallas, TX with Dr. Kris Segrest officiating.
