Gary Petty

September 29, 1943 — April 18, 2015

Gary L. Petty went to be with his Lord and Savior on Saturday, April 18, 2015 after a long battle with cancer. He was 71 years of age.

Gary was born on September 29, 1943 in Ponca City, the son of Ted Owen Petty and LaRose (Sherbon) Petty. In his younger years Gary was an excellent roller hockey player and was asked to go pro. His greatest love was his family. He and his family enjoyed many years of trout fishing in Red River, New Mexico. He was married to the love of his life, Judy Bruder Petty on June 6, 1965. The couple would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary in June.

Gary joined the Navy in 1961 at age 17 and was assigned to the USS Midway Aircraft Carrier for four years. He served during the Vietnam War and Cuban Missile Crisis and was very proud of his Navy time. He also worked as a Ponca City Fireman and then with Conoco for 13 years. He also worked for Mertz until his retirement.

He is survived by his wife, Judy, of the home; one son, who was the light of his life, Darin Lee Petty; two grandsons, Gaige Petty of Colorado and Christian Petty of Ponca City; one sister and brother-in-law Darlene and Jim Stafford of Enid; brother and sister-in-law Larry and Linda Bruder of Stillwater, Ginger and Hashem Shahrestani of Oklahoma City, and Joy and Richard Kassen of Ponca City; also aunts, uncles and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents Ted and LaRose Petty; two brothers, Teddy Petty and LeRoy Petty.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, April 24, 2015 at Grace Memorial Chapel with Pastor Dennis Wildman of the First Baptist Church, Burbank, presiding.
