Gary Gillespie

Gary Lee Gillespie, resident of Ponca City, went to be with our Lord, Thursday, July 17, 2008. He was 57. Gary was born August 13, 1950 in Cheyenne, Wyoming, the son of Gerold Lee Gillespie and Rosalee Mayes Gillespie. Shortly after his birth his family moved to Ponca City where he attended school and remained a resident for the remainder of his days. At the age of 16, Gary married Darla Jones on March 18, 1967 in Ponca City and to this union was born two daughters, Darletta and Candy. Gary was employed in earlier years as a welder and most recently was an employee of the Roof Repair and Siding Business of James Uttler. Gary was member of the Faith Tabernacle Church. Gary was a happy soul who enjoyed life and lived it to its fullest. This was evident in his smile when he was around his family and especially his grandchildren. He enjoyed playing video games with his grandchildren and taking them riding on his motor scooter. He also enjoyed the simple things of life such as playing the guitar, fishing, singing, playing pool and NASCAR racing. He was a man of many trades and took great enjoyment in making others laugh whether it was telling a joke, pulling a prank, or branding someone with a silly name. He was loved by many and will be greatly missed. He is survived by his wife, Darla, two daughters, Darletta McClung and husband, Steven, and Candy Gillespie, all of Ponca City; his mother Rosalee White and husband, Norris, of Ponca City; one sister, Donna Johnson and husband, Carl, of Ponca City; two brothers, Joe Gillespie and wife, Chyrl, of Ponca City and Sam Gillespie and wife, Nancy, of Oklahoma City; seven grandchildren, Christopher, Morgan, Dajuan, Jacob, Tieasha, Katlin and Sierra; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was preceded in death by his father, Gerold Gillespie; two sisters, Betty Jester and Vickie Alsup; one niece, Mellissa Wills. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, July 23, 2008 at the Faith Tabernacle Church, 501 South 5th, with Pastor's Don and Norene Stanton presiding. Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel. Casket bearers will be Chris McClung, Joe Gillespie, Larry Young, James Uttler, Stony Jones, Dusty Jones, Jimmy Bohon and John Lawson. Honorary casket bearers will be grandsons, Jacob Gillespie and Dajuan Gillespie, and others that include Steve McClung, Rocky Jones, Skeet Baker, Norris White, Carl Johnson, Sam Gillespie, Larry Alsup, Larry Dean Alsup, Reuben Alsup, Gary Simmons, Sam Simmons, Mike Wilcher, Gary Welch and Ronnie Wardlow.
