Fred Thomas Scott Sr. lifelong resident of Ponca City, Oklahoma passed away Tuesday, September 29, 2009 peacefully in his sleep with his family surrounding him in the late hours of the evening. He was 69 years old. Fred was born on September 13, 1940 to Paschal Pat Scott and Florence Crocker Scott in Arkansas City, Kansas. He attended elementary school at IXL in Arkansas City, Kansas. The family moved to Ponca City where he graduated from Po-Hi in 1959. After high school, Fred joined the 101st Airborne as a paratrooper. After being honorably discharged from military service, he married Barbara Ellen Jansson on June 23, 1966 in St. Louis, Missouri. He had numerous jobs including Atlas Tank Company, General Electric and Mertz. He retired from Mertz after 26 years of service. Fred enjoyed all sports. He was very involved with his childrens and grandchildrens sporting activities. Fred coached little league football for 17 years, coached softball at Willow Springs Park and ran the chains for the Po-Hi Football Team for more than 20 years. He was an avid OU fan. He was also a Golden Glove Boxer in the military. Fred loved children and enjoyed going to schools, hospitals and nursing homes to play Santa Clause each year at Christmas. He enjoyed spending time with his family and getting together for hot dogs and hamburgers at family barbeques. Fred loved to go fishing on his boat with the family and enjoyed just being outdoors. Fred was a wonderful husband, father and grandfather and he is going to be missed by all of those who knew him. He is survived by his wife, Barbara Scott; children, Darlene Garza and husband, Walter, Brenda Peters and husband, Kurte, Becky Choate and husband, Burt, Fred Scott Jr. and wife, Shasta and Shannon Scott-Senechal; sisters, Vivian Cook and Dovie Young and husband, Jack; brothers, Bud Scott, Danny Scott and Loren Cookie Scott; grandchildren, Krisinda Mayo, Breanna Morris, Danielle Drager, Katelyn Peters, Leah Peters, Ashlee Peters, J.D. Choate, Brandie Choate, Blake Scott and Brant Scott; great grandchildren, Michael Rodrigues, Keith Mayo, Christopher Mayo and Layla Drager. He is preceded in death by his parents, Paschal Pat and Florence Scott; sister, Debra Cecil and brother, Billy Scott. Honorary bearers are Dennis Muret, Gary Oswalt, Darrin Dyer, Russ Metcalf, Herb Rowland, Gerome Orange and Dean Crain. The family will be at 1500 Hudson Dr. The memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Friday, October 2, 2009 at Grace Memorial Chapel with The Reverend Tom Howard, Hospice of North Central Oklahoma officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made in Fred s name to Hospice of North Central Oklahoma, 1904 North Union, Ste. 103, Ponca City, Oklahoma 74601.
