Francis Mac Merritt McKim Jr., resident of Ponca City, passed away on Friday, September 18, 2009 at his home. He was 61. Mac was born on January 11, 1948 to Francis Merritt McKim Sr. and Imogene Margaret Lay McKim in Kansas City, Missouri. He grew up in Tulsa and attended Central High School and later received an associate degree from NOC. Mac enlisted in the United States Navy on November 13, 1967 and proudly served his country during the Vietnam War. He completed three tours on the U.S.S. Hanson DD832 Destroyer and was honorably discharged from military service on November 13, 1973. He moved to Ponca City in 1974 and began working for Conoco. He retired after 27 years in 2001 when his health forced him to retire. Macs main love in life was sports. Even while serving on the U.S.S. Destroyer he made time to be the coordinator for all of the sports programs. He was an OU Sooner fan, liked playing softball and participating in sports. He loved watching his grandsons play football and enjoyed being an umpire with Kids Incorporated. Mac also loved to fish. He is survived by his daughter, Stephanie Carney of Ponca City, Oklahoma; five grandchildren, Clinton Pappan, Taylor Page, Olivia Page, Sydney Page and Allen Carney. He is preceded in death by his parents, Francis Sr. and Imogene McKim; and one brother, Richard McKim. Casket bearers for the service will be Clinton Pappan, Calvin Kent, DeForrest Pappan, A.J. Carney, Brenton Carney and Chad Carney. A formal visitation will be held from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the funeral home on Tuesday, September 22, 2009. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, September 23, 2009 at Grace Memorial Chapel with Reverend Charles Hudspeth, First Assembly of God in Newkirk officiating. Burial will follow at Longwood Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
