Everett Louis Duke Delaney, longtime resident of Ponca City, passed away Tuesday morning, September 9, 2008 at his home. He was 63. Everett was born June 17, 1945 in Ponca City, the son of James Aaron Delaney and Gladys Delone Kirchner Delaney. He was a part of the1963 class of Ponca City High School. He was inducted into the United States Navy on December 5, 1962 and served his country on the USS Halsey. He was honorably discharged from the Navy on August 10, 1966. He was married to Barbara Radford on January 13, 1967 in Ponca City. To this union were born three children, Marci, Tracie and Mark. After a long courtship, Everett was married to Phylis M. Capes Shearer on March 19, 2005 in Ponca City. Everett was employed for 29 12 years with Conoco, retiring as a pump or value repairman in July of 1995. He was a member of the American Legion and the V.F.W. He was an avid deer hunter and had taken several trophy deer throughout his years. One of his trophy deer was the 2nd largest taken in the state of Oklahoma, with a score of 168 38, winning the Cy Curtis Award and honorable mention Boone Crockett Award. Everett also enjoyed fishing, cooking fish for others, camping, gambling, dancing, playing pool, playing golf, sharing tongue twisters, rhythms and jokes. Another huge enjoyment in his life was Beau, his puppy. He is survived by his wife, Phylis, of the home; six children, Marci Bowman and husband, John, Tracie Klingaman and husband, Scott, and Mark Delaney, all of Perry, Oklahoma, Jaquie Phillips and husband, John, and Philip Shearer and wife, Penny, all of Ponca City; Crystal Houseman of Guthrie, Oklahoma, whom Everett raised from age 6 months; three brothers, Jack Delaney who was also Everetts best friend, Jacks wife, Barbara, both of Stillwater, Walter Delaney and wife, Carolyn, Newkirk, Oklahoma, and Bud Delaney and wife, Molley, of Ponca City; one sister, Linda Dees, Enterprise, Alabama; 17 grandchildren; 1 great grandchild; his father and mother-in-law, Walter and Bessie Capes, of Waurika, Oklahoma; his brother-in-law, Harry Capes of Texas; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, James Delaney. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, September 12, 2008 in the Worship Center of the First Baptist Church with Chaplain Mike Sweetman of Hospice of North Central Oklahoma, presiding. Interment will be in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel. The family has asked that attire be casual for the service. There will be a visitation for family and friends from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Thursday, September 11, at Grace Memorial Chapel. Casket bearers will be Chad Delaney, Scott Riddle, Johnny Louis-Ray Davis, Everett Buntt, Mark Aaron Delaney Champlin and Jimmy Rowe. Honorary casket bearers will be Jerry Bakewell, Gaylord Hock, Gerald Motley, Richard Delaney and Wayne Mitchell Sr. Memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of North Central Oklahoma, 1904 North Union, Suite 103, Ponca City, Oklahoma 74601 or to the Youth Hunter Program, National Rifle Association of America, 11250 Waples Mill Road, Fairfax, Virginia 22030.
