Elvena Sylvester

Elvena Ruth Sylvester, resident of Ponca City, passed Wednesday, August 3, 2011 at the Ponca City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center. She was 87 years of age.

Elvena was born May 21, 1924 in Pawnee, Oklahoma, the daughter of Clyde B. Haga and Hazel Florence Tipton Haga. She was a 1943 graduate of Pawnee High School. She was married to Robert Sylvester in July of 1966 in Ponca City. She had been employed as a secretary with Conoco. She was a member of Crestview Baptist Church. Her enjoyments included quilting, painting, pottery, reading, sewing, knitting, photography, wildlife and shopping.

She is survived by her daughter, Vickye Dougrey of Lake Charles, Louisiana 8 grandchildren 6 great grandchildren one sister, Geraldine F. Hart of Sulfur, Louisiana. She was preceded in death by her parents her husband Robert one son, Gary Michael Johnson and one sister, Bonnie Helen Haga.

A graveside service will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday, August 6, 2011 at Longwood Cemetery with Hospice Chaplain Tom Howard presiding. Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
