Ed Morris, longtime resident of Ponca City, passed Monday, December 28, 2009 at his home. He was 75. Ed was born March 30, 1934 at Ninnekah, Oklahoma, the youngest of 13 children born to Clyde Morris and Minnie Boswell Morris. He was a 1952 graduate of Bradley, Oklahoma High School. He was married to Lucinda Ward on July 8, 1967 in Newkirk. Ed and Cindy made their first home in Ponca City where Ed went to work for the Bray Trucking Company. He later was employed as a truck driver for Conoco and retired from Conoco in 1985. He then became an independent truck owneroperator and leased out work to the Glass Trucking Company. He retired from his trucking business in 1996 after receiving 2 one million mile safe driving awards and a national recognition of 4th place in the nation by the OOIDA trucking association. After his retirement Ed raised horses on the couples Little Creek Farm northwest of Ponca City. Ed enjoyed watching his granddaughters and great niece and nephews sporting events, watching sports on television, especially rodeo events and the Oklahoma Sooners football games. He is survived by his wife, Cindy, of the home; two sons, Nick Morris and wife, Mandy, of Ponca City and Dean Morris of Oklahoma City; one daughter, Belinda Martin and husband, Walter, of Ponca City; three sisters, Ollie Thomas, Ruth Mainka and Beth Mainka; one brother, H.K. Morris; two granddaughters, Lexi and Niki Morris; other extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters, Helen, Dorothy and Maxine and five brothers, Harvey, Jack, George, Woodrow and Sam. Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 2, 2010 at Grace Memorial Chapel with Rev. David Bigger of the First Freewill Baptist Church presiding. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery. Casket bearers will be Dean Morris, James Morris, Brandon Mainka, Brian Bennett, Chris Greenhagen, Travis Greenhagen and Chad Ross. Honorary casket bearers will be Scott OHair, Kyle Morris, Leroy Evans, Ron Walenciak, Jerry Brunhoeber, Garry Depperschmidt and Mike Morriss. Memorial contributions may be made to Carter Hospice, 1409 South Main Street, Stillwater, Oklahoma 74074-5836. Family and friends may call at Grace Memorial Chapel from 8 a.m. until 9 p.m. Thursday, December 31, 2009 and from 8 a.m. until service time on Saturday, January 2, 2010.
