Dwayne Burgess

March 28, 1953 — June 12, 2018

Dwayne Roy (Baumgart) Burgess peacefully passed away on June 12th 2018 at North Kansas City Hospital in the company of loved ones. He was 65 years old. A funeral service, under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel, was held on Saturday June 16, 2018 at the Otoe Baptist Church with the Reverend James Kenner officiating the service. Burial followed later at the Veterans National Cemetery at Fort Sill in Elgin, Oklahoma, military honors were held at the cemetery. Pallbearers for the service include Brent Burgess, Ryan Burgess, Devon Burgess, Augustus Robedeaux, Burton Jay Miner, Jr., and James Robert Hughes, Jr.




He was born on March 28, 1953 in Pawnee, Oklahoma to Roy Algernon Burgess and Delores Colleen FawFaw Burgess. He lived a comfortable life in Petal, MS with his wife Debbie Bartee. Dwayne loved music. He had vast knowledge of many genres but was partial to Jackson Browne. He enjoyed spending time outdoors and discussing philosophy and theology. He is a member of the Otoe-Missouria Tribe of Oklahoma. In 1972, Dwayne joined the US Army in Oklahoma City in lieu of accepting a scholarship to attend LSU. He faithfully served his country for two years




Dwayne is survived by his wife, Debbie Bartee of Petal MS, three sons, Ryan Derek Burgess of Norman OK, Brent Dewayne Burgess of Seattle WA, and Devon Michael Burgess of Waterloo IA, and two granddaughters Linnea and Evangeline Burgess of Waterloo IA, and one sister Monica Audran of Savannah GA, and two nieces Seneca Audran-Brown of Omaha NE and Chantal Audran of Savannah GA.




He was proceeded in death by his parents and grandparents Ralph and Vestina [[]Grant] Burgess.




In lieu of flowers the family requests that contributions to be sent to the Otoe Baptist Church, Red Rock Oklahoma
