Douglas M. McGinty, longtime resident of Ponca City, passed away Monday, March 21, 2011 at the Ponca City Medical Center. He was 68 years of age.

Douglas was born April 1, 1942 in Ponca City, the son of Chester Franklin McGinty and Gracie Dora Cranford McGinty. He attended the Ponca City Public Schools. He entered the United States Army in 1959. He married his childhood sweetheart, Donna Kay Jones on April 7, 1962. The couple had two children, Kevin and Lori.

He received his nurses training in Ft. Lewis, Washington. He served his country in Thailand, Texas, Japan and Germany. He retired from the military at Ft. Riley, Kansas in 1979. After retiring he returned to his hometown of Ponca City. He went to work at St. Josephs Medical Center where he was an LPN in ICU until he retired in August of 1992.

He was a member of Second Baptist Church. His grandchildren were his pride and joy. He enjoyed watching movies and reading books. He was a master at telling Tall Tales. His family will really miss his sense of humor.

He is survived by his wife, Donna Kay, of the home one son, Kevin McGinty and wife, Janet one daughter, Lori Jones and husband, Kevin one brother, LJ McGinty and wife, Vestina, of El Paso, Texas sistersinlaw, Theta Jean McGinty of Oklahoma City and Carol Harris of Ponca City grandchildren, Sarah Pemberton and husband, Taylor, Jared McGinty, Emma Jones and Sabrina Jones.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Chester and Gracie McGinty and his brothers, Jim McGinty and Other McGinty.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, March 24, 2011at the Second Baptist Church with Pastor Ken Newport presiding. Interment will follow in the I.O.O.F. Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.

Casket bearers will be Ronnie Shelton, Darrell Shelton, Jared McGinty, Taylor Pemberton, Paul Harris, Scott Harris, Brad Parent and Roy Roland. Honorary casket bearer will be Chris Puckett.
