Dorothy Ellen Skinner, longtime resident of Shidler, passed Sunday evening, February 28, 2010 at the Fairfax Memorial Hospital. She was 87.

Dorothy was born January 2, 1923 at Mildred, Kansas, the daughter of Charles Holeman and Minnie Mefford Holeman. She received her early education in the Mildred area schools. She was married to Ralph J. Bud Skinner on September 28, 1941 in Girard, Kansas. The couple made their first home in Iola, Kansas and had lived at various other locations prior to moving to Shidler in 1954. Mrs. Skinner was employed for several years as a sales clerk in the Shidler Grocery Store. She also served several years as the local tag agent in Shidler and had helped with the family slaughter house business. She had owned and operated Dorothys Restaurant in Shidler and had helped her husband operate Ralphs DX station. Dorothy was a longtime member of the Shidler United Methodist Church and her enjoyments included making clothes for her family and reading.

She is survived by her three children, James Lee Skinner of Webb City, Donald Skinner and wife, Wanda Faye, of Shidler, and Connie Smith of Ponca City one sister, Frances Jackson of Woodward, Oklahoma eight grandchildren, Christie Forbes, Tulsa, Oklahoma, Matthew Smith and wife, Amy, Minco, Oklahoma, Robbie Biddle, Oxford, Pennsylvania, Pam Moore, Noble, Oklahoma, Cheryl Skinner, Newark, Delaware, Jay Skinner, of Shidler, Dawna Wray Reamy and Teri Sue Schultz, both of St. Joseph, Missouri 11 great grandchildren, Katherine, Ashton, Trevor, Tresta, Alec, Brieana, Chase, Colton, Hanna, Josh and Jeremy. She was preceded in death by her parents her husband 3 sisters 2 brothers and 1 great grandchild.

A graveside service will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, March 4, 2010 at LaHarpe, Kansas. Mrs. Skinners body will lie in state at the Shidler United Methodist Church from 10 a.m. until 6 p.m. on Wednesday, March 3rd. Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
