Dorothy Dot Mae Mahnke, longtime Ponca City resident, died Monday, December 31, 2012 at Ponca City Nursing Center, in Ponca City. She was 85. The funeral will be held at 10 a.m., Saturday, January 5, 2013, at the First Church of God with Pastor Alan Popken, of the First Church of God in Ponca City, presiding. Interment will be in Resthaven Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
Dot was born September 27, 1927, to John and Elsie Hume. During her childhood, she attended schools in Stillwater, Burbank and Ralston, Oklahoma. In her late teens, she moved to Ponca City.
Dot and Leroy Mahnke were married on Aug. 12, 1947, in the home of her inlaws, Arthur and Grace Mahnke in Ponca City. Soon after their marriage, she went to work at the local dairy, Midwest Creamery. After the birth of their first child, Dot became a fulltime homemaker. At the time of her death, Dot and Leroy were married 65 years. Through the years, Dot was an active member of First Church of God in Ponca City. She was involved in various church activities including Sunday School class, Young At Heart YAH, and served on the churchs Benevolence Committee, Spiritual Advisory Board, weekly financial counter, and was instrumental in selecting trees and landscaping for the church grounds.
Dots hobbies included reading, gardening, and refurbishing antiques. She had a great love of animals and enjoyed breeding registered Toy Fox Terriers throughout the years. Dot was known for her servants heart and extended warmth and care to those around her. Her family remembers her spending early morning hours in prayer, Bible study, and fellowship with her Lord.
She is survived by her husband, Leroy Mahnke daughters, Diana Taylor of Gladewater, TX, and Shannon Mair of Oklahoma City, OK three granddaughters, Brook Litton and husband Jason of Longview, TX, Sarah Mair of Oklahoma City, OK, and Rebekah Edwards and husband Dylan of Wheatland, CA one grandson, Brian Taylor and wife Sarah of Pampa, TX four greatgranddaughters, Macey Melvin and Gabby, Lily, and Annie Taylor one brother, James Hume of Wichita, KS three sisters, Betty Aduha of Los Banos, CA, Louise Morgan of Wilmington, NC, and Brenda Rath of Ponca City, OK, as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her parents five brothers, Burl, Robert, Dale, Doyle and Larry Hume four sisters, Wanda Lee, June Hume, Mary Lou Roland, and Norma Davis.
Casket bearers will be Ron Colberg, David Bullington, Edward Northcutt, Walter Northcutt, James Ullery and Justin White.
The family will receive friends at Grace Memorial Chapel Friday evening from 68 p.m.
