Doris Mae Swaim, former resident of Kaw City, passed away Tuesday, August 7, 2012 in Crete, Illinois. She was 93 years of age.
Doris was born December 12, 1918 at Washunga, Oklahoma, the daughter of James Calvin Clubb and Olive Augusta Graham Clubb and was of Cherokee dissent on her fathers side. She attended schools in Kaw City before graduating from Stillwater High School. She then completed college work at Oklahoma State University in Home Economics. She was married to Thomas J. Swaim on January 18, 1941 in Stillwater in a double ceremony with her sister Alice.
She had been employed at one time with Sears and Roebuck as a sales clerk in the candy department. She was a devout Christian, having been a member of the Christian Church and the United Protestant Church in Park Forest, Illinois. She was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha Sorority. She loved her family and was a wonderful neighbor, having stayed in touch with many of her past neighbors throughout the years.
She is survived by her daughter, Thomasene Kieper and husband, Dan, of Crete, Illinois one granddaughter, Suzanne Price three great grandchildren, Abigail, Kayleigh and Jonathan.
She was preceded in death by her parents her husband Thomas in 1996 her son Thomas J. Swaim III in 1997 two sisters, Alice Romine and Mary Ellen Bowman.
A visitation will be held from 9 to 11 a.m. Saturday, August 11, 2012 at Grace Memorial Chapel with the funeral service to follow at 11 a.m. with Kerney Graham presiding. Interment will follow in the Grandview Cemetery in Kaw City.
