Donna Wolfe

d. April 30, 2012

Donna Mae Wolfe, longtime resident of Ponca City, passed away peacefully in her sleep on Monday, April 30, 2012 at the Ponca City Nursing and Rehabilitation Center of liver failure after a short illness. She was 77 years of age.

Donna was born June 29, 1934 in Alva, Oklahoma, the daughter of Ben Frieden and Grace Broce Frieden. She was raised on a farm near Capron, Oklahoma and rode a cantankerous horse two miles to Mulberry Center School through the fourth grade where she was the youngest of four students in the oneroom school. At the start of the fifth grade this meek, bashful girl transferred to the Kiowa, Kansas school system where she was amazed and somewhat bewildered in a class of 25 fifth graders.

After graduating from Kiowa High School, she attended Northwestern State Teachers College now Northwestern State University in Alva where she played the clarinet in the band, sang in the orchestra, was secretary of her Junior Class and met Louis Wolfe. They dated seven years and were married in Alva on June 28, 1959 after Donna taught third grade at Attica, Kansas one year, and Caldwell, Kansas two years.

Donna could be relied upon to supply cookies or cupcakes and assist her family from behind the scenes as they participated in P.T.A, cub scouts, boy scouts, band parents and kids sports. Donna also enjoyed bowling in a league until a neurological disease restricted her to a walker, then to a wheel chair and finally to an electric scooter.

She lived in Ponca City all her married life and has been an active member of First Baptist Church for 45 years.

She is survived by her husband, Louis, of the home two sons, Gary and Kent Wolfe, both of Norman, Oklahoma. She was preceded in death by her parents and an infant daughter, Brenda Sue Wolfe.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 2, 2012 in the Chapel of the First Baptist Church with Rev. Jack Shamburger presiding. Interment will follow in the Ponca City I.O.O.F. Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.

Casket bearers will be Dale Zehr, Jay Stafford, George Ivie, Ralph McClung, Keith Hunter and Bill Hall. Honorary casket bearers will be H.T. Duff, Bill Clemons and the Ruth Sunday School Class.
