Don Coye Clinton II, longtime area resident of Ponca City and current resident of Marland, passed away in the home of his earthly father on Friday, March 4, 2011 and departed this world to the home of his heavenly father. He was surrounded by the love of his life, Andrea and daughter Laurie and son, Donovan, and his earthly father, Don Clinton I.
Don was born October 9, 1954 in Ponca City, the son of Don Coye Clinton I and Amanda Lee Johnson Clinton. He attended Ponca City grade schools, middle schools, and was a graduate of Ponca City High School.
Don was a man of many talents but was known as a master carpenter. His boss would say we arent building a Steinway and I cant see it from my house and Don would reply, if Im building it, it is a Steinway. One of his greatest works was the interior of the Tonkawa, Oklahoma Bank.
He was married to Andrea Dummer Kitchell on May 3, 2003. He often told his wife, Andrea, that he had to kiss a lot of toads to finally find his princess.
Don served his country for 10 years in the Oklahoma National Guard in Enid and held the rank of Captain as a Chemicals Officer. His biggest enjoyment included hunting with his wife, Andrea, and best friends, Brady and Jerry Pickens. He also loved to hunt arrowheads and look for mushrooms with his grandsons Christian and Dylan Kitchell, and Nathan Jr.
He is survived by his wife, Andrea, of the home his father, Don Clinton Sr. five children, Donovan Clinton, Larry Kitchell and wife, Lynne, Scott Kitchell and wife, Susan, Nathan Coye Clinton Hintz and Laurie Herron and husband, Jeff two brothers, Jack Clinton and wife, Tina, and Donald Cook many Native American brothers that included Craig Camp and Les Williams 12 grandchildren, Dylan Kitchell, Christian Kitchell, James Kitchell, Kaitlyn Kitchell, Nathan Jr., Jay, Daylyn, Kaylan Herron, Jordan Herron, Reno, Tate and Roman Redleaf sisterinlaw, Sharon Guthrie and husband, Darrell four aunts, Dorothy Lindeman, Evylin Redwine, Helen Shouse and Eunice Diehl. He was preceded in death by his mother, Amanda, on February 17th of this year and his sister, Valda Jo Short.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday, March 11, 2011 in the Worship Center of the First Baptist Church with Rev. Jack Shamburger presiding. Interment will follow in the Ponca City I.O.O.F. Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
Casket bearers will be Tom Lafollett, Brady Pickens, Steve Dummer, Jerry Pickens, Calvin Hoelting and Tom Skaggs. Honorary casket bearers will be Craig Camp Sr., Mike Clinton, Les Williams, Mario Ratliff, Tyrone Poore and Scott Clinton.
Memorial contributions may be made to the St. Jude Childrens Research Hospital, 262 Danny Thomas Place, Memphis, Tennessee 38105.
