Dewey L. Dailey Jr. longtime resident of the Red Rock community, passed away Friday, June 15, 2012 at the Ponca City Medical Center. He was 89 years of age.
Dewey was born March 17, 1923 at Ottawa, Kansas, the son of Dewey Washington Dailey and Susie Caleb Dailey. He was a member of the OtoeMissouria Eagle Clan. He attended schools at Pawnee and Haskell Institute in Lawrence, Kansas before completing Business College. He was first married to Velda Kekahbah and after her passing married Phyllis Harwell. Dewey retired from Conoco at the age of 62 and had been in charge of the Conoco tape library.
He served his country in the United States Army. In earlier years he was very active with the Boy Scouts of America and obtained the highest honor, the Silver Beaver award. He also had served on the Frontier School Board, the Otoe Tribal Council and the OtoeMissouria Housing Board. He was a member of the Community Christian Church but most recently attended the Otoe Baptist Church in Red Rock. His enjoyments had included visiting with his grandchildren when able.
He is survived by his daughter, Elaine Huch of Kaw City two brothers, Rupert Dailey of Red Rock and Leon Dailey of Pennsylvania one sister, Madonna Muller of Albuquerque, New Mexico three grandchildren, Jennifer Elaine Huch, David Caleb Huch and Michael Thomas Huch numerous other extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents his wives one son, also named Dewey Dailey one sister, Cecile Williams two brothers, Calvin Dailey and Antoine Dailey.
Prayer services will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday, June 17, 2012 at the OtoeMissouria Cultural Center near Red Rock. A noon meal will be served on Monday, June 18, 2012 also at the Cultural Center with the funeral service to follow. Pastor Jimmy Kenner of the Otoe Baptist Church will be the presiding minister. Burial will follow in the OtoeMissouria Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
