David Rush

David Russell Jody Rush, who was given the Indian name Dade Onsah and was a member of the Wind Clan of the Omaha Tribe, passed Sunday afternoon, October 11, 2009 at the Ponca City Medical Center. He was 61 years of age. Jody was born December 30, 1947 in Ponca City and was the son of Russell Rush and Christine Rosemary Horsechief Eagle Haymond and the step-son of Charles Bay Haymond. Jody was a graduate of Alva, Oklahoma High School and attended classes at Northwestern State University of Alva and Okmulgee Tech where he took course training for computers. He entered the United States Air Force on July 24, 1967 and was a veteran of the Vietnam War serving as an aircraft mechanic. He was honorably discharged on January 15th, 1973. He was married to Virginia McDonald on March 11, 1978 at the Old Watchorn Lease near Sooner Lake. Jody was a member of the Native American Church. He was a Champion Straight Dancer and enjoyed participating in pow-wows and being in the company of his grandchildren. He was a master upholster and was accomplished at feather crafts as well as other Native American crafts. He is survived by his wife, Virginia Jeana Rush, of the home; two daughters, Jeana Rush of Ponca City and Dawnena Rush Lake and husband, Casey, of Tulsa; four step-children, Sonia Lynn Brumfield Sturgeon and husband, Lewis Sturgeon of Ponca City, Todd Gregory Brumfield, Ponca City, Jill Primeaux of Shawnee, Oklahoma, and John Edwin Brumfield and wife, Victoria Morgan of Ponca City; two sisters, Phyllis Rush and Jenny Rush Buffalohead, both of Ponca City; five grandchildren, Brionna and Brooke Stoner, Autumn Estes, John and Eva Brumfield; three great grandchildren, Barak Segura, Gunner and Rayann Bracken; three aunts, Mildred H.C.E. Warrior, Vivian H.C.E. Cornell and Madelyn H.C.E. Norman; numerous nieces, nephews, other extended family and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and step-father, Charles Bay Haymond; one sister, Dawnena Rush and one grandson, Raymond Bryan Estes III; A Native American Church service will be held on Wednesday evening, October 14, 2009 at the Fort Oakland Reservation with a noon meal to be served on Thursday, October 15, 2009 at the same location with the funeral service to follow at 2 p.m. Burial will be in the Ponca Tribal Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel. Casket bearers will be Nelson Roughface III, Tanner Tseelee Rush, Jordan Rush, Russell Rush, Brandon Rush and Arlington LeClair III. Honorary casket bearers will be Kermit Horsechief, Eagle Norman, Thomas Rice, Craig Camp and Dewayne Camp.
