Clarence Wayne Sonny Cook, former resident of Ponca City, passed on February 11, 2010 in Midwest City, Oklahoma. He was 90.
Sonny was born April 9, 1919 in Ponca City, the son of Arthur Calvin Cook and Bertha Ethrel Summers Cook. He grew up working on his fathers ranch in Osage County. He was a graduate of Burbank High School and served six years in the United States Army from 1940 to 1946. He served most of his time in Germany during World War II where he was wounded twice.
Sonny married Joyce Porter on April 19, 1947 in Sedan, Kansas. The couples first home was made in Maysville, Oklahoma with the couple moving to Ponca City in 1948. The couple was members of the Ponca City Trail Blazers and lived on Pecan Road.
Mrs. Cook passed on June 4, 1990. He married Katherine House on December 22, 1993. His enjoyments included horses and riding and his favorite horse was JR. He also enjoyed elk hunting with his son.
He is survived by one son, C.W. Cook of Oklahoma City and one daughter, Kay Duroy of Magnolia, Texas one sister, Katherine of Washington State seven grandchildren and several great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents his wife two sisters, Freda and Helen, and one brother, Jerry.
The family had private committal services on February 13, 2010 at the Ponca City I.O.O.F. Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
