Christiana “Christi” Kemble Simpson, of the Wasabe Clan of the Ponca Tribe, went to her heavenly home on December 6, 2022. She was born at the Pawnee Indian Hospital in Pawnee, Oklahoma on December 15, 1958 to Sylvester Kemble and Hazel MakesCry Headman.
Her maternal grandparents were Albert MakesCry, Sr. and Beatrice Pappan MakesCry. Her paternal grandparents were William Kemble and Mary Horse Chief Eagle. She was a great grand daughter of the last surviving Principal Chief of the Ponca Tribe of Oklahoma Horse Chief Eagle who was the son of White Eagle (Xida Ska.) She was a lifelong member of the Ponca Indian Church of the Nazarene. She graduated from the Riverside Indian School in Anadarko, Oklahoma. Majoring in accounting, she graduated from the Northern Oklahoma College at Tonkawa, Oklahoma and The Oklahoma Baptist University in Shawnee, Oklahoma.
At the time of her passing she was employed at the Ponca Tribe of Oklahoma in the Accounting department. Christi was a quiet spoken person and a faithful member of the church. She enjoyed her children and grandchildren with whom she celebrated special days of the year. She was an avid fan of the Oklahoma State University football team as well as the Chicago Bears.
She is survived by her companion Steve Bear and their pets Biscuit and Rocket, sisters Rachel Kemble and Linda Caballero, and her five sons, Scotty Jr. “Buddy” and wife Sally, Dustin and wife Alicia, Cory and wife Annette, Steven, Jonathan “Jon-Jon” and wife Sophie, 20 grandchildren, and her only great granddaughter Elara Ruth, all of Ponca City, Oklahoma. She leaves behind a host of relatives and friends. She will be missed by all.
Funeral and wake services will be held at the church. December 9. 2022 the traditional feast will be held at the Ponca Tribal Cultural Center in the White Eagle community and services will follow afterwards at the Ponca Indian Church of the Nazarene with Pastor Louis Headman and the Rev.Jimmy White officiating.
Pallbearers will be Steve Bear, Scott “Sonny” Simpson, Nathaniel Simpson, Johnny Kemble, Wesley Bear, and Amos Simpson. Honorary Pall Bearers are Scotty Simpson Jr, Dustin Simpson, Cory Simpson, Steven Simpson, and Jonathan Simpson.
