Charles Haight

Charles W. Haight Charles W. Charlie Haight, resident of Ponca City, passed away Friday, April 10, 2009 in Oklahoma City after a courageous battle with cancer. He was 61. Charlie was born September 21, 1947 in Alva, Oklahoma, the son of Charles Francis Haight and Bessie Eveleyne Walker Haight. He attended the Watonga, Oklahoma schools. Charlie entered in the United States Navy on July 13, 1965 and served aboard the USS Allen M. Sumner during the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged from the Navy on September 20, 1968. He was married to Linda Lovan Scott on August 15, 1966 and to this union was born three children, Tonja Diane Haight, Ponca City, Teresa Renee Haight Gadhei and Charles David Haight, both of Phoenix, Arizona. He had one granddaughter, Jaycee Kathleen Haight who was his pride and joy; one sister, Florence Downing and husband, Bill, Osceola, Missouri; three brothers, Harry Dean Haight, Mooresville, Missouri, James Carl Haight and wife, Paula, Santa Rosa, New Mexico, and Neil Haight and wife, Judy, Watonga, Oklahoma; numerous nieces, nephews and friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and one sister, Mary Ellen Haston. Charlie was married to Sandra Hinman on August 23, 2005 in Ponca City. He and Sandras family consisted of four sons, Samuel Hinman, of the home, Marcus Hinman, Ponca City, Brian Ibarra, Corpus Christi, Texas and Myron Hinman, Ponca City; grandchildren, Asja Marie Hinman, Rikki Santana Hinman, Marcus Manard Hinman Jr. and Michael Ray Hinman; several other extended family and friends. In earlier years Charlie had several employments that included farming, raising hogs, working in the oilfield, semi-truck driver and heating and air conditioning. He was currently employed in refrigeration maintenance with Tyson Foods of Ponca City. He was of the Nazarene faith and had most recently been baptized. He was a member of the American Legion. Charlie lived his life as a simple and jovial man with enjoyments that included fishing, camping, gardening and playing the guitar. He was also an avid OU football fan and a John Wayne fan. Charlie enjoyed Christmas time with his family, the American Native Culture and attending the Ponca Tribal Pow-Wows. Charlie will be greatly missed by all that knew and loved him. A prayer service will be held Sunday evening, April 12, 2009 at 7 p.m. at the Ponca Indian Church of the Nazarene. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, April 13, 2009 at the church with Pastor Louis V. Headman presiding. Burial will be in the Ponca Indian Tribal Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel. Casket bearers will be Charles David Haight, John Haight, Roy Hinman, A.J. Carney, Samuel Hinman, Marcus Hinman and Myron Hinman. Honorary casket bearers will be Tim McDaniel, Tom Emmerson, Mike Hutchison, Jackie Ball, Maynard Hinman, Paul White and Jarren Grimsley.
