Charlene A. Neidig, lifelong resident of Ponca City, passed Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at the Ponca City Medical Center. She was 93 years of age.
Charlene was born June 17, 1919 in Ponca City, the daughter of Samuel Charles Charley Shields and Berenese Forrest Yost Shields. She attended Garfield Grade School, East Jr. High and was a 1937 graduate of Ponca City High School. She was married to Guy Raymond Marlar on December 16, 1939. Mr. Marlar was killed in World War II on November 19, 1944 and was laid to rest in Holland. Charlene married Dale D. Neidig on May 25, 1946. He preceded her in death on April 24, 1992.
Charlene was employed in earlier years as a nurses aid at the Ponca City Hospital. She was a longtime member of Community Christian Church where she was very active with the CFW in earlier years. Her enjoyments included spending time with her family at various functions and gatherings. She also enjoyed working crossword puzzles, playing cards and in her younger years was an accomplished seamstress.
She is survived by her four children, Jerry Raymond Marlar and wife, Mary, of Ponca City, Guy Wayne Marlar and wife, Barbara, of Arkansas City, Kansas, Dianne Knight and husband, John, of Ponca City, and Dale D. Neidig and wife, Leanne, of Ponca City 14 grandchildren numerous great and great great grandchildren other extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents two husbands and two sisters, Beryl Boaz and Georgia Ripley.
Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, February 9, 2013 at Woodlands Christian Church with Community Christian Church Pastor Mark Lyon presiding. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
Casket bearers will be Anthony Mears, Kale Marlar, Ronnie Marlar, Randy Marlar, Jared Marlar and Cody Marlar. Honorary casket bearers will be Steve Cline and Tim Klienman.
