Carolyn Evans

Carolyn Evans, longtime resident of Ponca City, passed Tuesday, March 26, 2013 at Via Christi Village. She was 85 years of age.

Carolyn was born June 17, 1927 in Grandfield, Oklahoma, the daughter of William Thomas Clarke and Mae Ross Clarke. She attended the Ponca City Schools and was a graduate of PoHi. She was married to Harry Lee Evans on November 18, 1946 in Winfield, Kansas. Carolyn had lived in her home in Ponca City for 60 years. She was a member of the First Baptist Church. In earlier years she was very athletic and was a member of the Conoco traveling softball team and volleyball team. Her enjoyments included the outdoors, bowling, bird watching, painting and traveling with her husband in the RV circuit. She had made some 13 trips to Alaska. In 1992 while in Anchorage visiting her sister, she experienced the impact of the Mt. Spurr volcanic eruption. In 1993 she survived the calving of Childs Glacier in Alaska.

She is survived by her children, David Evans and wife, Barbara, of Ponca City, Jeanette Easterling and husband, Grant, of Tulsa, and Jody Wemhaner of Oklahoma City two sisters, Nancy Jo Clarke and friend, Frances Smith, of Reno, Nevada and Virginia Brown and husband, Ed, of Idaho Falls, Idaho six grandchildren, Nathan Easterling, Jonel Easterling, DEtta Kriel and husband, Brad, Paul Wemhaner and wife, Kim, Mark Evans and wife, Karin, and Melissa Simpson and husband, Brent eight great grandchildren, Kalder Kriel, Shelby Wemhaner, Aaron Wemhaner, Alyssa Wemhaner, Madison Simpson, Lauren Simpson, Khloe Evans, Hayden Britt and another great grandchild due in October two best friends, Mona and Coy Clifton, neighbors for 25 years other extended family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her parents her husband, Harry, on February 26, 1990 longtime Ponca City residents John P. Clarke and wife, Marcelle and two sisters, Dorothy Gene Snodgrass and Helen Harvey.

A private graveside service was held at Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery with Hospice of North Central Oklahoma Chaplain Tom Howard presiding. Arrangements were under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel. Honorary casket bearers were her six grandchildren.
