Altha Lora Martin, resident of Ponca City, passed away Friday, October 29, 2010 at the Sterling House of Ponca City. She was 89 years of age.

Altha was born April 4, 1921 at Jet, Oklahoma, the daughter of Robert Burnham and Girtrude ONiel Burnham. She was a 1940 graduate of Jet High School where she excelled at basketball. She was married to Paul Wilton Martin on August 10, 1940 in Nash, Oklahoma with the couple making their home in Blackwell and Ponca City most of their married life.

Altha had worked for Whitlock Enterprises and Playpen Ceramics, retiring in 1997. She had attended St. Lukes Nazarene Church, was a lifetime member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary, serving as President from 19771978 and also serving in various state offices. She was also a member of R.S.V.P., spending many volunteer hours in nursing homes and also was an Ombudsman in the area. She had also volunteered at the Wheatheart Nutrition Center and had helped serve meals for the Salvation Army. If anyone ever needed a volunteer, Altha was always available.

In addition to helping others her enjoyments included her poodle dog KoKi and visiting with family and friends. In earlier years she and her husband Paul enjoyed playing music together at various nursing homes and other functions.

She is survived by one son, John P. Martin and wife, Jo, of Disney, Oklahoma one daughter, Sharon Ingmire and husband, Curtis, of Pensacola, Florida four grandchildren, John Ingmire, Mike Ingmire, Marty Ingmire and Kris Reeser five great grandchildren and one great great grandchild many other extended family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents husband four brothers and two sisters.

Graveside services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, November 3, 2010 at the Hope Chapel on the grounds of the I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Arrangements are under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
