Algean Lee Bud Vance, age 83, departed this earth surrounded by a band of angels on August 14, 2012 to be with the loved ones gone before him.
Bud was born June 10, 1929 in Ames, Oklahoma, the son of Clint W. Vance and Lily Foglesong Vance. He attended school at Ames, graduating in 1949 from Ames High School. Bud was a fledgling musician in his teen years and even made a record of the songs Country Boy and Out Behind the Barn. He also played the banjo and harmonica.
He served his country in the United States Army and was assigned to the 53rd Infantry Regiment, 71st Division, Fort Richardson, Alaska. After his honorable discharge from the Army he returned to Enid, working at Vance Air Force Base where he met Eunice Warren in the cafeteria and love took over, as they were wed on February 14, 1956. The couple moved to Ponca City in 1957. The couple bought a small farm south of Ponca City on Hwy 177 where they worked their little piece of heaven on earth. He lost Eunice in 1985 but continued to work the farm. Bud was employed with Nickles Machine Shop for 25 years in addition to being a farmer all his life.
Bud was married to Erma Smith on July 17, 1987 in Ponca City. The couple had celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary on July 17, 2012. Bud and Erma sold the farm in 2012 due to Buds ill health and moved into Ponca City. He and Erma were faithful members of the First Church of The Nazarene for 25 years.
He is survived by his wife, Erma, of the home children Shirley Jean Foreman, Wheeling, West Virginia, L.W. Fuzzy Warren, Ponca City, Neda Sue Akers, Wichita, Kansas, Barbara Lewis, Wooster, Arkansas, Fran Phelps, Gatesville, Texas, Sharon Kay Williams, Blackwell, Deborah Jo Briggs, Pawhuska, Douglas Smith, Ponca City, and Jeanie Lee Shafer, Oklahoma City, and all their families numerous grandchildren numerous great grandchildren, several great great grandchildren and 3 great great great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Clint and Lily Vance and first wife, Eunice, on November 17, 1985 his sister, Nadine Vance soninlaw, Mike Briggs and grandson, Jerry Ray Williams.
A visitation for family and friends will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday, August 16th at Grace Memorial Chapel. Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, August 17, 2012 at the First Church of The Nazarene, 1900 West Grand, Ponca City, with Pastor Larry Hall and Pastor Roy Edwards presiding. Interment will follow in Resthaven Memorial Park Cemetery under the direction of Grace Memorial Chapel.
Casket bearers will be Buddy Lee King, Chris Briggs, Michael Williams, Douglas Smith, Steven Smith and Steven Warren.
